Are you familiar with the cues that various discolouration of oil give you?
- Clear to slight yellow: spotless condition of oil in a clean system. No worries.
- Clear oil with yellowish or slight green: Good condition with UV dye present.
- Light grey : Acceptable working condition but indicating long hours.
- Dark yellow to orange / amber: Moisture present with acid forming due to moisture.
- Dark or silver-grey: metal contamination, foreign particle, or internal seizure.
- Black: overheated due to high temperature/pressure. Could also be a lack of refrigerant, possibly due to blockage
